About the Fiber
Referred to as the “Gold of the Andes” Alpaca Fiber is considered a luxury fiber. Alpaca rivals the popularity of such fine fibers as Cashmere and Pashmina due to its smooth, velvety, very lightweight, soft, and durable properties. The Alpaca's finest fibers were considered of such value that only the Inca royalty used them. Nowadays, the Alpaca is the key component to the economy of rural families or Pastores Alpaqueros in Peru. Peru is the main producer and exporter of alpaca fiber/fleece in the world.
Alpaca evokes superlatives such as:
Beautiful hand and drape
Warmth without weight
Heirloom quality
Cashmere quality without the cost
