Additional Description
Referred to as the “Gold of the Andes” Alpaca Fiber is considered a luxury fiber. Alpaca rivals the popularity of such fine fibers as Cashmere and Pashmina due to its smooth, velvety, very lightweight, soft, and durable properties. The Alpaca's finest fibers were considered of such value that only the Inca royalty used them. Nowadays, the Alpaca is the key component to the economy of rural families or Pastores Alpaqueros in Peru. Peru is the main producer and exporter of alpaca fiber/fleece in the world.
Peruvian cotton, for the past 4500 years, has formed a part of the landscape in the valleys of Piura and Chira, as well as other parts of the Peruvian coast.
Pima Cotton’s unique soft handle and luster are the result of the climate and fertile soils of the areas where it is grown. The fiber is extraordinarily strong, obtained through a rigorous selection of seeds, sowing in the appropriate areas, well-controlled irrigation, and the blessing of the marvelous Peruvian sunshine.
